      The Kitchen

Walking into The Kitchen is like walking into the home of an old relative with a penchant for hording, but this old granny or great aunt also happens to cook very well. There are jars of preserves and jams everywhere you look and crockery in every possible nook and cranny, and it is all mismatched, just like the crockery you’re served with. But this just adds to its down to earth atmosphere where slick pretence is left at the door.

The Kitchen is situated at 111 Sir Lowry Road Woodstock, if you haven’t ventured this far from your Cape Town rental accommodation you don’t know what you are missing. While we pride ourselves in providing the guests of our holiday apartments with the highest quality of luxury apartments Cape Town has to offer, in some of the most stylish areas of the city. Woodstock has a lovely bric-a-brac quality that attracts all of the Cape Town creatives to set up studios and run quirky shops, The Kitchen is bound to attract such a person.

It is close to many cultural activities, across the road from the well regarded Michael Stevenson Gallery, and a few steps away from Rewardrobe and Wessel Snyman Creative, just a few interesting places that guest of our Cape Town luxury apartments should visit.

The Kitchen is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 16:00 and has a menu stacked with Mediterranean and Oriental inspired dishes and the counter where they serve their coffee is packed with divine cakes and tempting cookies.

If you prefer super quick service, then rather head to your local coffee house chain, The Kitchen is all about charm and hearty food. I must say that on my last visit a woman at my communal table was complaining to the waitress that she had been waiting half an hour for her anchovy toast. The head chef/owner came over herself with the toast, apologized very sweetly as the dish was knew on the menu. I thought that this was handled very well and to my surprise there was no processed paste on her plate, rather whole anchovies and tomatoes drizzled with olive oil. The customer seemed quite satisfied by the time she left.

So if you are keen to experience some home made kitsch charm, head down to the Kitchen, about 5 minutes from the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and 8 minutes from any of our Camps Bay luxury apartments.

      Arnold’s

While the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront has a wealth of restaurants to choose from, it is not the only area in Cape Town which is conveniently close to many of our Cape Town luxury apartments and has an abundance of eateries to chooser from. Kloof Street, in Greenpoint, is known as the culinary mile, for its delightful selection of restaurants. Arnold’s is a wonderful example of such a restaurant and is also located within walking distance to many of our luxury apartments.

In all honesty, the first thing that attracted me to Arnold’s was their outdoor area which had those lovely fans that spritz cold water onto anyone in their immediate vicinity, in this current heatwave, that looked like a dream. Those of you staying in holiday homes in Cape Town may know that Arnold’s is known for their breakfasts, which are served all day, so I ordered a ‘Light Breakfast’. It consisted of scrambled eggs and grilled cherry tomatoes on an English muffin with a touch of basil pesto. It wasn’t bad at all and at an incredibly reasonable R15, it certainly filled the gap. Arnold’s is a lovely laid back restaurant for breakfast and I would also recommend it to students or business people staying in our Cape Town rental accommodation, who should try the ‘Early bird free range breakfast’, available from Monday to Friday before 7am for just R13!

They also offer a selection of other free range breakfasts to choose from. The staff were friendly and convivial, even in that heat and humorously offer you pepper from a giant pepper grinder.

Arnold’s is named after the owner Arnold Battendorf, who has been operating successful restaurants in Cape Town and Johannesburg for the past 30 years.

Guests of our Camps Bay apartments will certainly benefit from waking up a little earlier, or any time they like and enjoying a breakfast at Arnold’s. While those staying in our luxury apartments Cape Town should not leave the city before sampling a lassie, Arnold’s version of a smoothie, made with yogurt and fruit.

      Cape Town Ostrich Ranch

The Cape Town Ostrich Ranch is situated in Philadelphia, off the N7, about 50 kilometers from our Cape Town luxury apartments situated in the city center.  As well as exquisite views of the surrounding Boland, it also offers tours of the ranch conducted in English, Afrikaans, German and French. The tours generally last 40 minutes and are conducted by a well informed tour guide. While on the tours, guests of our luxury apartments Cape Town will view the museum, the ostrich leather factory, the incubator, West Coast white necked ostriches, black necked ostriches, emus, rheas and ostrich chicks.

There is also an ostrich breeding enclosure where guests of our Cape Town rental accommodation may be lucky enough to witness newly hatched chicks or recently laid eggs. If they like, visitors may also sit on a live ostrich as part of the ostrich show.

Visitors seeking something special to take home to their luxury apartments with them, may well find it in the curio shop, which includes pieces produced at the on site ostrich leather factory shop. These pieces include belts, shoes, handbags, wallets and ostrich skins. Guests of our holiday homes in Cape Town will also find locally crafted curios such as carved ostrich eggs, and work made with ostrich feathers, they also stock African wood and stone carvings.

There is also a leather and egg factory shop and a scratch patch to keep visitors occupied during their visit.

Before heading back to their Victoria and Alfred Waterfront or even Camps Bay luxury apartments, they could always enjoy a light lunch at the Ostrich Ranche’s small restaurant while their kids play in the playground, which includes a sandpit, jungle gym, duck pond and even Patonque, a traditional French game. Once fully relaxed, they can enjoy the drive back to their Cape Town holiday homes.
